Griminal is back at it, as he drops new album ‘Grimace’

In this album we will discover who is Grimace. And, to remember Griminal is one of the UK’s expectational Grime MCs from Plaistow, East London.
As a member of the Nasty Crew, he is known to be a part of Grime’s most influential talented families. Griminal is the younger brother of Marcus Nasty, Mak 10, and Lil Nasty. When he was a youth, the love for Grime was found by observing and listening to sessions, involving Dizzee Rascal. He started his music career with the young wing “Younger Nasty” before joining the main crew Nasty Crew in 2005.
Going into his teens, Griminal was involved in one of the most legendary rivalries in Black British Music. He famously clashed with Chip on Axe FM and Rinse FM; both artists are respected in British culture since this moment. As a result to the clash, he signed a record deal with Universal Records; then recorded tracks ‘Supa Dupa’ and ‘Invincible’. At this point, his sound was more polished; also, he managed to release ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ and ‘Young Guns’ with Ed Sheeran.
After a 10-year hiatus everybody witnessed the signs of the rapper’s comeback, as a producer and entertainer. In the beginning of his new journey Griminal delivered a hot ‘Invite Only’ on GRM Daily that sparked a conversation; leading him on a path to explore with different genres and technical creativity when developing a number of tracks such as ‘Back at it’, ‘Pop Music ft Wiley, Tinchy Stryder and Flirta D’, ‘When I’m Ere’ ft Roachee and Nolay (performed by Nolay at the MOBOs to celebrate 25 years of Grime) and ‘Ireland’ ft Back Road Gee & RA and ‘The Baddest’ ft Alesha Dixon. These songs are featured to be new music understood as a collection of singles which is now compiled into an album known as ‘Grimace’.
The album speaks for itself in terms of more collaborations from familiar icons, this includes D Double E, Assett1, Frisco, Mak10, Narst, JME and Devlin.
Griminal said, “I wanted to experiment with different artists as I felt they all brought something different and complimented the tracks in their own way”.
Moving on, the album coincides with an upcoming record which is given a specific title ‘Personal’. ‘Personal’ was the first song written for the album, also It honours many real-life memories and experiences that are very intimate to Griminal. His own reality of life is true, and it’s reflected, by deep bars and fluent chemistry with the streets. But explaining why music is so important to him, he is also establishing a point; not just talking for other MCs who has dealt with alcoholism, addition, loss and
mental health.
Furthermore, this single has allowed Griminal to touch upon his feelings and be unapologetic in his music. The music video features a cameo from Sumotherhood’s Adam Deacon and D Double E. As we all know, the artist has been dealing with personal issues during his distance away from the spotlight, but no negative situation stopped him from producing music. The Grime MC has not been afraid to speak about his issues, in interviews on talk shows or social media. Reflecting, to a chat that was aired on Honestly Speaking With Trina located on YouTube.
Music has always remained a constant part of his recovery, life and career. This is the main reason to why Griminal’s songwriting, beats, music videos and level of integrity can seem truthful, raw, authorial, emotional, surprising and complex. In a dark era of his life, the rapper was undergoing a cathartic experience, during the process of recording beats and writing bars for his new project. Now, Grimace has arrived. It’s already receiving fantastic feedback and attention.
“The exploration of music production really started after my first record deal fell apart back in 2011”, says Griminal. “I’ve been making beats on and off since then I really enjoy the process. I’d love to collaborate with artists such as Jorja Smith and Khelani, and have them use my beats”
The Grime scene has never been silent, but this time is booming with a loud presence, from the Grime MC. Starting from March, Joshua Ramsey has been posting short reels and teasers of highly engaging videos, including the infamous “wedding” video for ‘When I’m Ere’ featuring Nolay and Roachee.
“I collaborated with Birmingham-based videographer Directed By Rico to bring the songs to life. I like the way he works and his creative vision.
“It’s been quite a journey to get to this point, but I’m happy to finally be releasing my first project and letting everyone hear what I’ve been waiting on whilst, I’ve been away. It’s good to be back, especially with the love and support I’ve received. I’m definitely back at it and here to stay. There are so many exciting things in the pipeline so stay tuned!”
