Written by Anthony Haynes | Edited by Lesley Hayles

Meet Latoya Simpson, better known as Indigo Toya or simply Toya. She is a rising star in the beauty industry. Originating from the island of Jamaica in the parish of Portland, Toya transformed her inspiration and dreams into a career, vowing to make a positive impact as her own boss.

Starting her journey at 19 years old, Toya became a licensed cosmetologist after graduation. Despite the loss of her brother during the Covid-19 lockdown, she used the time to open her own business with him as her muse.

During these challenging times, Toya extended her support to individuals with similar backgrounds, offering online courses, vendors and personalized business solutions.

This led to collaborations with Cloré Beauty, Walmart and Sephora, culminating in a contract with a major Toronto modeling agency in 2020. Toya's versatility expanded as she became a licensed nail technician and waxer, continuing her lash business and catering to top artists in Jamaica and Toronto.

Growing up in a family of entertainers and musicians, Toya's creativity and familiarity with beauty tools shaped her passion. Irrespective of her achievements, she remains humble, expressing a desire to inspire and teach others worldwide.

As she plans to broaden her services and revisit photography in Jamaica, Toya emphasizes on her journey's significance. Her message: "It's not about where you're from; it's about where you're going, and the world is yours!"
