Meet Weekday: The Producer Behind Some of Dancehall's Biggest Hits

In the ever-evolving world of music production, few producers have managed to carve out a unique sound while contributing to some of Dancehall's most successful records. One such producer is Weekday, a creative force whose melodic approach to production has helped shape hits for some of Jamaica's biggest artistes.

Weekday's journey into music production began several years ago while watching his older brother create beats and connect with artistes. Inspired by the process, he knew this was the path he wanted to pursue. His first major opportunity came as a composer on Alkaline's "My Love," marking the beginning of what would become an impressive career in music.

Drawing inspiration from his brother's dedication and passion, Weekday developed a signature sound that blends R&B influences with Dancehall energy. His productions often feature jazzy chords, rich melodies, and smooth harmonies layered over hard-hitting Dancehall drum patterns. While melodic beats are his specialty, his versatility allows him to create everything from hardcore Dancehall and Trap Dancehall to Reggae instrumentals.

With seven years of experience under his belt, Weekday has built an impressive catalog. His credits include major tracks such as 450's "Wild N Rich," "Demon Gyal," and "No Patience," as well as Alkaline's "Thug Loving," "Most Wanted," and "Tek A Gyal Man." He also played a significant role in the production of Shenseea's "Good Comfort."

One of his biggest accomplishments to date is producing 450's "Wild N Rich," a song that has amassed over 130 million streams worldwide, solidifying its place as one of Dancehall's standout hits.

Weekday continues to push boundaries with new releases. His latest projects include 450's "World On Fire" and Aidonia's "Like How You Feel," both showcasing his continued growth and influence within the industry.

When it comes to creating music, Weekday doesn't follow a strict formula. His creative process is guided by his environment and mood. Sometimes he begins with drums, other times with melodies or samples. Whether he's producing in the studio or creating ideas while on a flight, he adapts his workflow to fit the moment. For him, creativity is about allowing the music to develop naturally rather than forcing a process.

Like many producers, one of the biggest challenges he has faced is getting artistes to record on his beats. Through experience, he has learned that patience is one of the most valuable traits in the music industry. Not every artiste is ready immediately, and not every beat finds a home right away. However, building strong relationships and trusting the process often leads to better opportunities in the future.

For upcoming producers, Weekday's advice is simple:

"Keep working and make sure that when the opportunity presents itself, you're prepared. Focus on your own journey and don't get distracted by what others are doing. Don't put too much focus on social media because it's not real life. Work smart, stay focused, and most importantly, be patient."

When asked which artistes he would most like to produce for, Weekday immediately named The Weeknd and Rihanna. The Weeknd has long been one of his favorite artistes and even inspired his producer name. He believes their styles would blend perfectly to create something special. As for Rihanna, he admires her vocal style and says producing for her would be a dream opportunity.

Away from the studio, Weekday has one bold claim for fans and friends alike:

"Nobody can beat me in FIFA."

With a growing list of hit records, a unique production style, and an unwavering commitment to his craft, Weekday continues to establish himself as one of the most exciting producers in contemporary Dancehall music. As his journey continues, fans can expect even more groundbreaking productions from the talented hitmaker.
