ZANDIE LENA: FROM MUSIC LOVER TO MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST, PRESENTER AND CONTENT CREATOR

Manchester-based multimedia journalist, presenter, content creator and DJ Zandie Lena, whose real name is Zandie Waring, is embracing a new chapter in her career, combining her passion for music, storytelling and connecting with people.
Her journey began with a childhood love for music, singing and dancing. At 18, she started experimenting with DJing, eventually developing her skills and performing at events. Although motherhood temporarily shifted her focus, an opportunity at Unity Radio introduced her to broadcasting and creative media.
What began as an unexpected opportunity developed into five memorable years of presenting at the station. Determined to strengthen her skills, Zandie later graduated from the University of Salford with a 2:1 degree in Multimedia Journalism.
Her return to DJing as one half of the female duo Girls Gon Groove brought her back to her musical roots. While house music remains her primary genre, she has also explored bashment and Afrobeats, reflecting her appreciation for diverse sounds and audiences.
BUILDING A CAREER IN MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT
Zandie’s experience spans radio presenting, journalism, event hosting, artist interviews and content creation. Her career highlights include working with Studio 88 during the MOBO Fringe celebrations, presenting on the main stages at We Invented the Weekend, and interviewing internationally recognised DJs Patrick Topping, Max Dean and Robbie Doherty.
She has also interviewed artists and entrepreneurs, including Pen Game, Che3kz and David Mills, owner of Wah Gwan, while working with brands such as Bumbu.
Celebrating Black music, culture and creativity remains particularly meaningful to her. She values opportunities to amplify voices, showcase talent and contribute to platforms that champion representation.
Balancing motherhood, education and career development has not always been easy, but these experiences have strengthened her resilience and taught her the importance of trusting herself, embracing change and remaining open to new opportunities.
EMPOWERING WOMEN AND EMBRACING A NEW CHAPTER
As Zandie approaches 30, she is placing greater emphasis on presenting, journalism, content creation and helping others. Alongside her media career, she holds an advanced Level 7 qualification in life coaching and is developing an exciting project designed to empower women, particularly mothers, to rediscover themselves, build confidence and pursue their dreams.
The upcoming initiative is expected to include webinars, online resources, meaningful conversations and one-to-one coaching. Although further details are yet to be revealed, the project reflects a personal passion for helping others grow and move confidently into their next chapter.
Zandie is also exploring opportunities across television, radio, event hosting, brand partnerships and entertainment coverage. While regular DJing is taking a back seat, she remains open to selected bookings, particularly at house music events.
